Micah is the fourth in my black and white series and came about in my quest to play with tones and forms. I had finished creating Morris and I felt that I wanted to take this series a bit further and so Micah was created. I created more faces in this piece because I wanted to focus solely on the expressions on not just one face but on a number of faces. Instead of just having the main face with eyes open, I decided to create a contrast by having one of the minor faces also look out with eyes wide open.
In my black and white collection, I decided to set aside the color spectrum and focus on the visual power that black and white can create. Doing these pieces in black and white allows my viewers to focus on the beauty and emotions of each face. This was a very freeing experience for me as I did not have to focus on mixing colors but more on forms and create drama as I played with extreme lights and darks. The differences in each face show that beauty comes in many different shapes and forms.
